Fall Sensory Bin-Prescooler

I love trying new sensory bins.  They are fun to set up and the kids usually enjoy them.  With fall in the air it was time for a fall sensory bin.

What I used: pumpkin spice sensory rice, little pumpkins and pine cones I got in a box together at Walmart.  I also got fabric leaves at Walmart and add those too.  Large bin to put it all in.  The one I used I got at The Dollar Tree.

What to do:   put it all togehter and set it out for the kids.  My son asked for a spoon, bowl, plate, and trucks:-)

I just loved the colors together and the smell was yummy too.

He was happy to have a new bin to play in.

He had fun scooping and pouring.  He also had fun playing with his trucks driving through the rice.  There are so many options for play with this one bin.  What would you and your family do?

Dino egg soap- will have the kids begging to wash their hands

I had the chance to work with Kiwi Crate on a few posts and this is my  favorite one.  Dino soap eggs with toy surprise.  My son loves this soap.  Not only can you wash your hands, but the kids can bathe in it as well. We had a lot of fun making this soap together. If you want to see how me made it follow the link above and it will take you to the post.  We hope you and the kids can have some soap fun too.

Fall crowns fit for a king or queen

What a fun idea I came across at danamadeit.com.  Fall crowns.  I just knew my boys would love them.  They love playing dress up just as much as any other kid.  What a fun way to spend a part of our day creating fun hats to play in.  We love it even more when daddy is home and he can get involved.
What I used: white cardstock, colored construction paper, glue, scissors, fabric leaves.

What we did:
We took our white cardstock and glued the colored construction paper to it.  The cardstock makes the hat more stable.  We did this twice and glued those 2 sheets together.  Now it is long enough to fold over to fit child's head.

My husband cut the paper to make it look like a crown on the top.  He also had to cut some off the bottom to keep the crown from being to high on their heads.  Now we wrapped around my sons head to get a good fit before we glued it together.  Then we left the crown to dry.

Once dry it was time to glue on the fabric leaves.

We let my preschooler help a lot with his crown and he had a lot of fun with daddy making this.  For my toddler, daddy and I made his. My oldest just used Elmer's glue to put his leaves on but I used the hot glue gun on my toddlers and went back over my oldest sons crown in a few places with the hot glue gun as well.

Now we have fun fall crowns to play in!  As always, we hope you and your kids can have fun with this idea too.

Halloween Treat Bags ( for class party)

I love making holiday treat bags for my son's class parties at school.  This year we did cute mummy treat cups for his teachers and I am doing simple yet fun treat bags for his class.

What I used:  orange and black plastic bags I got at walmart, and printable tag I got from link.

What I did:  I chose to fill the bags with fruit snacks and Halloween stampers I got at walmart.  I also added a few stickers I had from the dollar tree.  Print(I used cardstock paper) and cut out tags(I used scrapbook scissors).  I wrote "from: name" on back of tags.  Then I used twist ties to add tag to bag.  And that is it!  Cute and easy class treat bags.  The kids should love them.  My son is already trying to get to them.

Paint with Water and Colored Ice

Paint with Water and Colored Ice

This a great fall activity for our weather.  We are having some cool morings and evenings but our afternoons are warm.  That is when it is is a good time to get out water and ice.  We play with colored ice and water all the time but never together like this before.  Painting with both water and ice is a cheap way to entertain the kids and it is a fun sensory experiencs for them as well.  You can also add a little learning with the colored ice. You can go over colors as you play.  With the water we painted shapes and went over them.  The rest is just fun, fun, fun!  This was a hit at my house.

What you need:  colored ice cubes( fill ice trays with water and food coloring and freeze.  I leave these in my freezer at all times bc I never know when we are going to need them.), bucket of water, and paint brushes.

What to do:  put ice cubes in a bowl and set them out with the bucket or bowl of water and let the kids have fun.

Our play.

They couldn't wait to get their hand on the ice cubes.

Fall Sensory Bin-toddler

My toddler loves to make a mess!  So what better way to do that than give him a bucket full of fun stuff to scatter around the floor.  This sensory bin has a fall theme to it.  I did this by adding fabric leaves, yellow pom poms, and assorted fall colored pipe cleaners.  I also added a washed and dried peanut butter bottle.  This was for him to put his fun items down in if he wanted.  Once it was ready I sat it on the floor for him and brought him over to see it.

Toddler fun in a bucket.

As I thought, he went for the plastic jar first.  He loves these type of jars.  He was trying to get the lid off.  Sometimes he does and other times he gets mommy to do it.

Finally, he sat down to look through the whole bucket.  He is feeling the texture of the leaves.  He has never really played with leaves before so he wasn't sure what they were.

It didn't take long for him to turn the bucket upside down.  It actually took him longer than I thought to empty it on the floor.

His favorite part was adding the pom poms to the jar.  He did this over and over.  He put them in and dumped them out.
I was so glad that he enjoyed his fall sensory bin.  I enjoyed watching him as he played.  We hope you and your kids can have some fall fun too.

Pink Snail Craft in Honor of Breast CA Awareness

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Having been in the medical field and watching close friends and co-workers deal with this in their families it hits home with me.  My close family has been affected by many types of other cancers(CA) but not breast.  I support the awareness of all cancers but for this month I wanted to share on breast cancer.

October has been set up as a month to spread the word on breast CA.  One important area is screening and I would like to share that with you.  Woman age 40yr should have yearly mammograms.  Women in their 20's & 30's should have a breast exam done by a doctor every 3yrs and women in their 40's every year.  Women can also perform self breast exams and know what is and isn't normal for their breasts.  If you ever have a question please see a doctor. American Cancer Society is a great resource for information.

In honor of this month, I wanted to do a pink craft with my boys.  Yes, they are young and may not grasp the concept of cancer however I do not think they are too young to start learning to care for a cause and others.  I told my boys that women get sick sometimes and this month is a month we can support them by making a pink craft and sharing it with others. I kept it really simple.  Then we moved on to our craft. We have done this craft before but this time we just did it all pink.

PINK SNAIL CRAFT:

What you need:  paper plate, pink paper, glue, googly eyes, pink pipe cleaner.  Scissors for older kids.

What to do:  I took the pink paper and cut the body of the snail out for the boys.  For my preschooler he started cutting up his pieces of paper.  My toddler tore his pieces of paper up.  Both great motor skill builders for them.  When they had their paper into small pieces we then applied glue to the plate.  My preschooler can do this on his own but I helped my toddler.  We then added the paper pieces to the glue on the plate.  We then glued the body of the snail on to the plate.  Last we glued on the eye and pipe cleaner as an antena.

*********************************************************************************
We have also made pink peppermint playdough to sell at a church sale.  The money we make will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

The American Cancer Society has a  page packed full of information on breast cancer and ways you can get involved and donate. If it is something you would be interested in please take a look.  My hope with this post is to help spread the word on  breast screenings.  Also show our support to the survivors of breast CA and the ones currently affected  by breast cancer ( you all amaze me).   We also would like to honor those that have gone before us and let them know they are not forgotten.
