Apple Scissor Skill Craft and Coloring Page

We have been doing a few easy apple crafts/activities at our house lately.  With fall in the air and my son starting back his 1/2 day preschool, apples were on my mind as I am sure they are for many.  This day we started with a simple color sheet(can print from link) and apple scissors skill craft( can print apple sheet from link).  My oldest did both of these and my youngest just colored his coloring sheet. ( 3.5yr & 1yr)

For the coloring sheets just print and then give the kids crayons, markers, pencils... to color.  We talked a little about the letter A and I wrote one on both of the coloring pages.  My oldest has since asked why we only had one apple to color.  So I guess I need to go back and print more coloring pages.

(my oldest coloring sheet)

For the scissors skill craft this is what we used and how we did it.

What we used:  Apple sheet(can print above), red construction paper, scissors, glue.

What to do:  Let the child cut the red construction paper into pieces with your help.  Then let them use the glue to put the pieces on the apple sheet.  Easy and so much fun for my son.  He loves to cut paper and use the glue!
I again wrote out the letter A on his sheet and we went over what letter it was and that A was for apple.

Oh how he loves the glue.

My son copied the letter A on his paper that I wrote.  This is his first time writing a letter, sorry had to share it was a proud mommy moment:-)  It looks a little crazy but you can see(in the leaf) it is an A.  I hope you and your kids can have some easy learning fun as we did with these activities.

Here is our Apple tree craft we did too.

Glitter Cloud Dough

I am so excited to share this post with you.  I have been trying new things with glitter thanks to the Glittering Muffins pinterest board I am on called Glitter!  And I find myself getting a little into the idea of adding glitter to already fun things:-)  I hope you and your kids can have as much fun as we did with our Glitter Cloud Dough.

Cloud dough is easy to make as shared in our last post on cloud dough.  We took some of the last batch we made and just added glitter to it this day.  Now we have a whole new way to play with our already fun sensory substance.

Here are pictures of our play.

Our set up for play.

Mixing the two together!

Glitter Cloud Dough

Wow, we both loved the look the glitter gave the cloud dough.

We got out a few extra things to play with:  straws and pom poms.
Glitter Cloud Dough

We usually play with this outside because it does make a mess, but we had lots of fun making this mess:-)
Glitter Cloud Dough

We cooked up some cloud dough surprise for you!

Glitter Cloud Dough

I think I had just as much fun playing as my son did with the glitter cloud dough.
Glitter Cloud Dough

I hope you and your family may have fun with glitter cloud dough too.
Note: The last post we did with cloud dough was outside(link above) and that is how we usually play with it.  It is messy.  It was just to hot this day to get out and I felt brave. We played this same way another day but it was on the deck instead and I can't find the pictures:-) I also suggest using toys that can easily be washed or can stay dirty(we use outside toy trucks etc... most often when playing with the cloud dough).  My son loves it and play with it often.  It is so much fun and to me worth the clean up.

Please do come and visit us again. We would love to have you back.

Apple tree- craft

I have been bit by the apple bug, lol.  I just got to thinking one day its time to get back to crafting with the kids.  So with the beginning of school and fall around the corner for us, apples came to mind. We have made these finger paint trees before and I thought we would just make them "Apple Trees" this time.

What you need: green cardstock or construction paper, red paint and brown paint(if you want to paint the tree trunk), scissors, toilet paper roll, paint brush, paper towels or mat( to layout if they paint the trunk), and a wipe or wet paper towel.

What we did:  I took the green paper and cut it out to look like the top of a tree(best I could) using my scrap booking scissors.  You can use regular scissors( I have before). Get out the toilet paper rolls( I have been saving a few for some crafts).  I put paper towels out for my oldest and put his toilet paper roll on it.  Then gave him brown paint and brush to paint the trunk.  My youngest did not paint his trunk.  While big brother painted, I got the red paint and let little brother dip his finger and put fingerprint dots on the green paper.  He now had apples:-)  I had my wipe to clean his fingers off.  Now it was big brothers turn to do the same to his tree top.  I left the tree tops and one trunk to dry.  When I came back I cut slits down the side on the toilet paper rolls about 1/2- 1 inch on each side.  Now take the tree top and slide it in to the roll.  Last stand it up and enjoy the pretty apple trees the kids have created.

Above my oldest is painting his trunk.

Little brothers tree with a plain toilet paper roll trunk and big brothers with a painted one.

Since I hope to do a few apple related crafts and activities with the boys I chose to talk about the letter A during this time.  I just simply put an A on a piece of paper and hung it on the wall where the boys will see it daily.  Hope you all can have some apple fun too.

Tractor bath

My boys love themed baths!  They don't get them every night, so when they do they love it.  Don't get me wrong they have everyday bath toys they play with on a regular basis in there and they enjoy them.  On the nights we do something different they get excited.  This night I thought we would do a country bath.  I got tractors and plastic corn out and put them in the tub.  We had green ice cubes in the freezer already so we got a few of them out as well.  Now to just start the water and add the kids
:-)  We didn't have enough ice cubes to change the bath water a good green.  I added some of our bath tabs to give it a good green color to the water.  Both boys had fun.  However, it was really hard to talk my oldest into getting out:-)  He was having tons of fun.

Here is our bath.

Bouncy Ball Race

My boys love these bouncy balls.  One day they threw them at the same time and went bouncing on the floor together and I thought you both could race your bouncy balls.  My oldest loved this idea.  I made a quick sign that said "Finish Line" and hung it up for them.  Then we started our race.  They both had so much fun throwing and chasing and going to get their bouncy balls.  I really enjoyed watching them play.  Simple is fun at my house.  My boys are 3 1/2yr and 1yr.

Their Bouncy Ball Race.

My quick sign I made them.

Throwing the ball.  Little brother is a little small to get him to throw the ball at the same time every time but he did it a few times.  Mommy played too with big brother.

Little brother loved watching the ball bounce down the hall.

I think they had a lot of fun running to get their balls:-)

Little brother really wanted to get that sign down.  And after a while he won.

We had a lot of fun with this simple idea and look forward to the next time we get our bouncy balls out.  Hope you and your kids can have some bouncy fun too.

Note:  The balls can be changed out for bigger ones depending on the kids age.  My tot is 1yr and did ok but I did watch them the whole time they played.  Some children may want to put the small balls in their mouths.  Bigger balls would be fun too.

DIY Sensory pond

DIY Sensory pond

This was so much fun putting together and my son had just as much fun playing with it.  I love activities that are not a headache for me and my kids love.  This did take me preparing the frozen ice with the frogs in them ahead of time but everything else I just got out that day as we headed outside.  Daddy was home this day too and it is always easier to set up activities when he can help keep an eye on the boys.  For the large frozen ice cubes I used small to med sized plastic bowls.  I added water, food coloring, and the plastic frogs.  I put them in the freezer a few days before we set this up.

What we used:  A bottle of colored water, a bowl of glitter water, a cup with pine scent essential oils, little rocks we had, sticks we gathered, toy boats( my sons choice to add), and I took some foam sheets and cut out lily pads.  Oh I see he had a net too.

What I did:  I filled up the box with plain water.  Next I let him start adding all the fun sensory items in the box to the water. Then let him play!

This is our day.

DIY Sensory pond

He said he had to be in the picture today!  He was excited to play in our 1st sensory pond.
DIY Sensory pond

I thought the pine scent would work to add an outside nature scent to the pond.  I don't think even if I had "pond scent" I would have added that, lol.

DIY Sensory pond

He loved the glitter.

DIY Sensory pond

Colored water seems to make most things even better.

Now he had his sensory pond all set up.  He was ready to get his hands in and play.

DIY Sensory pond

The only messy part was the glitter but the glitter made it more fun for the eyes!

DIY Sensory pond

He loved the lily pads!    I had to make him a few more while playing. I was glad he liked them because I am no artist.

DIY Sensory pond

We had never made a sensory pond before and I had a lot of fun setting it up and watching him as he played.  I hope you and your family can enjoy one too.

Glitter Jello Surprise

I have been trying to find new and fun ways to use glitter.  I came up with this one. A glitter jello sensory bowl.  I would not recommend this for young children or children that have to put everything in their mouth.  My son is 3 1/2yr and had a lot of fun with this and understood we do not eat but just play b/c of the glitter.  My 1 yr would have eaten it and that is why he didn't join us for this activity, lol.  As you can see in the picture above that is what I used(googly eyes, pom poms, glitter, and jello not shown).  I made the jello and then added all the extras before setting in the fridge to set.

It looked fun and smelled good to me.  I used a peach jello box I got for less than 50 cents at the store.

He was surprised to see this when I sat it out for him to play.

We added some forks, spoons, and bowls as he played.

He had fun digging everything out and cutting the jello.
Love the above picture of his tongue out as he is concentrating on what he is doing.

Great sensory play with the sight, smell, and feel of the jello.
Extra sight sensory with all the extras added.

The separate bowl he put his finds in.

His mess at the end of play.  Not too bad compared to some things we do.  I love a simple clean up.

Hope you and your kids may have some glitter jello fun too.

Note: I have been inspired to find new ways to use glitter after being able to take part in the pinterest board Glitter by the Glittering Muffins.
