Classic turkey hand print craft with feathers-family tradition

I started out as a child making the turkey hand prints myself with my mom and siblings.  Since having my oldest I have done the same with him.  As my family grows I continue to do it with all of my children.  It has become a family tradition that we all enjoy.

In the past it has just been traced hands and crayon coloring but this year we added feathers for a little extra fun. It worked out great with both preschooler and toddler to be able to help make their own turkey. They both had fun playing with the feathers before we glued them down. I look forward to trying something new next year with the same classic craft. We hope you and your family may have some fun with this too.

What we used: construction paper, feathers, glue, googly eye, markers, crayons.

What to do: trace child's hand and then let them glue feathers on.  My oldest glued a googly eye on.  for my youngest I just put a black dot with a marker.  I helped them add feet and beaks.  You can let the kids color them before adding the feathers if you want.  Then let dry.  We hang ours up in the house to add to our holiday decorations.

Please do come and visit us again. We would love to have you back:-)

All kids are different and only you can decide how you let your kids play. And with what materials you let them play with. My children are supervised when playing. Please keep this in mind with any post you read of mine!

  1. I remember making something like this too as a kid. I love the idea of passing on an art or craft activity that I did as a kid to my own kids.
